このたび、ジャック・スピラ日本向けスペシャルモデル第2弾のお披露目として
TOKYOハンドクラフトギターフェス2014に出展させていただきました。
ギターは新作3本と、定番の0000モデルの4点を出展
ブースにて対応させていただきましたのは、ジャック・スピラ、関根弘幸、関根典子の３名です。
おかげさまで多くの皆様にご来場、ご試奏いただき、ブース大混雑の二日間となりました。
今回は、ジャックの初来日のスケジュールを追いながら、TOKYOハンドクラフトギターフェスの
模様もあわせてご報告させていただきます。

東京ハンドクラフトギターフェスには、たくさんのハンドクラフトメーカーが集まりかなりなギター好きのお客様がご来場します。
今年で10年目、毎年盛況になってきているとか。
わたしどももはじめて参加させていただくことになりました。
国内メーカーが多いので、ジャック・スピラの日本のメーカーさんに会うのを
とても楽しみにしてきました。
成田に到着！展示会の二日前のことです。
メルボルンから直行便が出るようになったので、10時間半ほどで到着しました。
田んぼの中を通って、埼玉にあるわたしたちの家に向かいます。
ジャックは、水田が広がる日本の風景を映画でみたことがあるそうですが、実物をみて感動！
たくさん写真をとっていました。
展示会のためのギターのスタンドを調達しに、
イオンレイクタウンショッピングモール（越谷レイクタウン）にある島村楽器さんへ
無事３つ購入できました。
日本茶のカフェで休憩。
お抹茶体験セットを体験。茶せんで泡立てるのが楽しそう。
日本食すきなジャックは和菓子もおいしいといっていました。
夜は初の来日を祝して蕎麦居酒屋で乾杯！
ようこそ日本へ！
おさしみ、生しらす、じゅんさいなどなど、なんでも食べられます。
おはしもとても上手！
日本酒は純米酒好きだそうです。
その後駅前のスーパーマーケットへ。
オーストラリアのスーパーマーケットと置いてあるものがまったく違うので、興味深いようでした。
豆腐コーナーの大きさにびっくり！
メルボルンでも豆腐は手に入りますが、多くて３－４種類でしょうか。
その後お菓子コーナーでチョコレートコーナーの小ささにびっくり！
ジャックもそうですが、オーストラリアやイギリスの人はチョコが大好きなので、
スーパーマーケットのチョコレートコーナーは、驚くほど大きいです。
翌日は今回の新作３本のギターを納入する
渋谷のハートマンギターズさんへ
ハートマンギターズの皆さんと今回展示する４本のギターを持って集合写真。
その後、渋谷駅前散策へ。
日本で一番有名な犬、忠犬ハチ公像の前で記念撮影。
そしてセンター街、スクランブル交差点へ。
メルボルンのABCニュースでもスクランブル交差点はよく映像を流しています。
その後、翌日からの東京ハンドクラフトギターフェスティバルの、搬入のために
錦糸町丸井の上にある、すみだ産業会館へ。
展示会のブースに貼るポスターも、つい一日前にできました。
今回はモノクロにしてみました。
ギタリストのぷう吉さんが、関東ツアーの合間をぬって、駆けつけて来てくれました！
ぷう吉さんは毎年、年末年始にシドニーでギター演奏をしていて、
今年の1月にはやはりギタリストのAkiさんとメルボルンにもきてくれて、
ジャックの工房に一緒に行きました。
現在はジャックのギターの出来上がりを楽しみに待っているところです。
４ヶ月ぶりの再会です。

日本全国、そして国際的にも大活躍の、ソロギタリストです。
新作ＣＤは「キング・オブ・ピッグス」 ギターとカホーンのアルバムです。
タイトなリズム感が心地よいファンクに仕上がった一枚。
喫茶店でインレイの打ち合わせ。
ぷう吉さんはブタのモチーフが大好きで、今回のギターもブタのインレイをいれるそう。

華麗なインレイについつい目がいってしまうんですが、
ジャック・スピラのギターの本質は、楽器としての基本的性能がとても高く、
演奏の道具として作り込まれているという点につきると思います。
素晴らしい精度で仕上げられたギターです。
細かな部分まで行き届いた心配りは、音を繊細にし、
ジャックの人柄そのままに、ギター自体が音を主張するのではなく、
演奏が表現したい音を出すための手助けをしてくれます。
靴下に空いた穴には目もくれず、木材を削るジャックの姿をみて、
古い日本の職人さんを見てるような気持ちになりました。
職人魂というものは世界共通のものなんだと気付かされました。
そして、気に入らなかったら返してくれていい、と言ってのけたジャックにしびれました。
この職人さんのギターがどうしても欲しい！！
僕の音楽を表現するための一生もののギターができると確信しています。
ちなみにインレイはド派手になりそうです・・！

その後、みんなで御茶ノ水のギター街を視察しました。
たくさんのギターショップにジャックもびっくり。
とても楽しそうでした。
残念ながらギター街閉店の８時となり、浅草は雷門へ移動。
浅草寺をお参りしました。
初めてのおみくじ。
ジャックと関根（弘）は吉をひき、ぷう吉さんと関根（典）は凶を・・・。
おみくじを持って帰る組と結ぶ組に分かれました。
先日工房に行ったら、壁に貼ってありました。
裏面には英語の説明も書いてあるんですね。
その後は浅草のいい感じの居酒屋さんへ。
いま食べているのはいわしのつみれ汁。まぐろ納豆も難なくこなしました。
日本人より日本人らしいかも！
夜が明けて東京ハンドクラフトギターフェスティバル当日！
このようにコーナーも完成しました。
いよいよジャックの新作ギターを日本の皆さんに見てもらいます。
一同、どきどき・・・。
ドルフィンギターズの武田社長が、住出勝則さんの出たばかりの新作ＣＤを届けてくれました。
14曲のうち5曲がジャック・スピラのギターJS-2Cモデルを使用して演奏されています。
ジャックのギターのJS-2C（ウィーディーシー・ドラゴン ショートスケール）と、
JS-4AC（Hummingbird)の二つのモデルは、
現在ドルフィンギターズさんで取り扱いしていただいています。

住出勝則さんは、ちょうどソロギタリストとして活動を始めた時期にメルボルンに住んでいたこともあり、
2月にジャックの工房に来られたので、ジャックも面識があり、
自分のギターを住出さんが使用したこと、そして新作のＣＤが完成したことを心から喜んでいます。
ブースに出かけていって日本のギターメーカーさんと交流するジャック。
今回の日本訪問の一番の目的でした。
写真はSUMI工房さんです。
「一番好きなギターは？」と聞いたら、最初に名前が出てきたのがSUMI工房さんでした。
長野の工房にいつか行きたいとSUMIさんに言いましたら、SUMIさんもぜひにと言ってくださいました。
開場と同時に一番乗りでかけつけてくれた、長塚さんご夫妻。
長塚孝之さんは会社経営をされながらも、ギタリストとして多方面で活躍中。
長塚ゆみ子さんはヴォーカル・作詞・作曲をされて、
昨年はご夫婦のユニットI’m homeでＣＤも出されました。
昨年からジャックのギターを知っていて、今回東京での展示会ということで
スケジュールの合間をぬって来てくださいました。
一本一本試奏する長塚さん。
あとから感想を送ってくださったので、許可をいただいて掲載しますね。

ジャックのギター。まずヘッドデザインがイカシテル！
音が人々を巻き込む様なロゴもイイ。
本体に目を転じると、アームレストの入ったボディのバランスが良く、
低音の響き方は想像以上だ。
私見かつ、わかりにくい表現で恐縮だが、ヴィンテージフェンダーのアンプ、
ブラックフェイスの低音の出方を感じる。
高音弦の方は、出来たてのせいか、響きに広がり感が欲しく感じたが、
力強い響きなので、ぜひ一年後にまた試奏して、変化の傾向を確かめたい。
私は、装飾にはあまり興味がないが、宇宙デザインの指板など、
クオリティの高さだけでない、オリジナリティと遊び心に溢れているところが好きだ。
指板のエボニーも良いもので、ネックの握りも標準的。
ほとんどのプレイヤーにとって扱い易いだろう。
私は電気ギター専門だが、イメージに近いピックアップが見つかる様であれば、
ぜひレコーディングに使ってみたい。
非常に魅力的なギターの出現と、それを日本人がプロデュースして、
国内販売を実現してくれたことに感謝している。
アコギも弾き始めようか、、、。

Acoustic Guitar Bookで東京ハンドクラフトギターフェスティバルの特集記事を書かれるそうです。
直接ジャックにインタビューしてくださいました。
広島からわざわざ来てくれたTAKAさん。
TAKAさんは数年前にメルボルンに仕事の関係で住んでいて、
そのときにジャックのギターを知り、訪問して以来のお友達です。
ギター作りも習ったそうですよ。
英語が堪能な方で、今回は二日間、ジャックと共に他のメーカーブースを訪ねたり
なにかと通訳をしてくださいました。
二人とも久しぶりに会えて嬉しそうですね。
その後も続々とブースにご来場、試奏の方が続き、ほとんど途切れ目がありません。
休むまもなく頑張ってギターの説明をする代表関根。
皆様の感想は・・・。
低音の響きがボリュームがあり、とてもクリアだということ、
また高音も華やか。個性的なギターということでした。
一日目の終了後、ジャックの歓迎会を企画していて、
夕方になるにつれ、続々と友人が増えてきました。
メルボルンでジャックと会っている人、ギターが好きな人、ギターが好きな人のお友達などなど。

歓迎パーティは、フェスティバル会場のすぐ近くで行われました。
ギタリストのAkiさん到着！
このパーティだけのために大阪から飛行機で急遽駆けつけてくれました。
1月にぷう吉さんと一緒にジャックの工房にいって、（工房を訪ねた模様はこちら）
彼もまた自分のギターができるのを楽しみに待っているところです。

新作CD カバー曲集 「Easy To Use」 の ３曲目のRight here waitingにて
ジャックの0000モデルを使用していただきました。
ジャズやボサノバのスタンダード曲を清潔感のある美しいギターソロにアレンジ。
聴いているだけでうっとりと別世界に浸れる美しい曲集です。
Akiさんは通常はクラシックギターを弾いていますが、
アルバムの中でこの曲だけジャックのアコースティックギターを演奏しています。
そのギターがこちら。サイドバックはココボロを使用したドレッドノートに一番近い形状のモデルです。
なんとAkiさんがミニライブをしてくれました！
アルバムの中の曲とオリジナルの曲とを弾いていただき、
美しい調べに会場のお店も静まり、他のグループのお客様まで大拍手！
癒しのひとときとなりました。
事後、Akiさんにお伺いしました。
1月にオーダーしたギターについて、なぜジャックのギターが気に入ったのでしょうか。
メルボルン来訪時のエピソードも含めて、心温まるメッセージをいただきました。

「僕は基本的にナイロン弦のギターを弾きます。
理由の大半が「表現がし易い」からです。
そして、僕がメインで使うギターは買ってから23年が経ちます。
そこには「信用できる」と言う言葉も音楽には必要になってきます。
ジャック先生のギターと出会ったのは、関根夫妻が僕に絶対的なオススメをしないままに、
メルボルン郊外の工房へ連れてってくれた時です。
僕に「ごり押ししないのに、こんな遠い所に連れてきてくれる」
これはジャック先生が良い方だからに違いないわけで。
それはまさにその通りだった出逢いの瞬間を今でも鮮明に覚えています。
ジャック先生の穏やかな人柄と僕達の様子を伺いながら会話してくれる柔軟性のある職人肌！
肝心のギターもやはりその人柄がしっかりと宿っています。
ギターの名器にしかないタッチポジションでの音の厳格な変化、
音量の幅広さ、突き抜ける細く小さい音、遠達力のある甘い音。
そんな音の発音が可能な鉄弦のギターにはあまり出逢いませが、
メルボルン郊外のジャック先生の工房にはありました！
でも、そのギターは売ってくれませんヽ(；▽；)ノ
ネックの裏にホントに小さな小さな節があるから。多分1mmくらいやったと思います。
一晩考えて聞いても売ってくれません！
これは本物の職人でないと出来ない事ですよ。
仕方ないじゃないですか！オーダーするしかないですよ。
もう、その音が欲しくて仕方なくなってるのは僕ですから。
ジャック先生は「アキはクラシックサウンドが好きだから、
この木を表に使って、この木を横・裏に使うと好きかも、いや、この木かなぁ～、
アキは高音は今のままが好き？もっとクリアなのが好き？」
「僕は煌びやか過ぎるハイトーンは嫌いだけど、この木を使うとどうなる？」
などなどとにかく色んなアイディアとボディサイズで音色をコントロールしてあげると言ってくれたり。
ジャック先生の人柄がとにかく僕達に配慮してくれて、
その中にジャック先生の身を置いてくれるんですよね。
ギターも同じように作ってくれて、必ずそんな「表現がし易い」音のギターが生まれるんだと思うんです。
だから関根夫妻は只々ジャック先生に会わせたくて、
あんな遠路をカンガルーとか見せてくれながら退屈しないように連れてってくれてんだと思います。
関根夫妻とジャック先生に心から感謝感謝です」

新しいギター、楽しみですね！
すてきなコンサートの後は、皆さんががんばって英語で自己紹介。
それに答えてジャックもご挨拶。日本語もいま勉強中。
「わたしの名前はジャック・スピラです。仕事はギター職人です。
どうぞよろしくお願いします。」
パーティも後半となり、有志の皆さんから提供されたプレゼントや
オーストラリアのお土産をかけて、じゃんけん大会。
ジャックにやり方を教わって、Rock, paper,scissors!
英語だとタイミングが狂ってみんな大混乱。
やたらと時間がかかったじゃんけん大会も終わり、そろそろパーティ終了。
みんなで集合写真「はい、チーズ！」
その後もう一軒寄ってから、明日もあるので、錦糸町のカプセルホテルへ！
カプセルホテルは、日本にしかないそうで、外国人の方から見るととても興味深いそうですね。
パーティに参加した、遠方組のTAKAさん、Akiさんと 関根（弘）、ジャックが男子フロア、
関根（典）、Chiharu、よっちゃんが女子フロアに宿泊。（女子は全員初めての体験でした）
土曜日ということで、結構な混雑でした。
ジャックに後日カプセルホテルの感想を聴いてみたら・・・

すごい！
ほんとうに心地よくて簡単で、なんて賢いアイデアなんだろう。
日本でのひとつのすごく新鮮な体験でした！
ひとつだけ難点を言えばテレビ…
わたしは何度かテレビに頭をぶつけてしまいました。
いったい誰がテレビを必要としているんだろう？
カプセルホテルは素晴らしいし、オーストラリアにあったらいいのになと思います。

今年2月までメルボルンに滞在していました。
こちらも大変ご活躍中のソロギタリストです。

素敵な一曲をその場でジャックに演奏のプレゼントしてくれました。
またジャズトリオ「藍色の空」やソロで活動しているギタリストの土屋祐介さんも
ブースを訪ねてくださいました。
ひとつひとつ丁寧に音を確かめながら試奏されていました。
一番大きなJS－５ACでは ジャジーな「五木の子守唄」を
JS-3Cでは 「スペイン」を、
JS-1Cではバロック音楽が合うねといいながら、おそらくを弾かれていました。
う～ん、間近で聴けてラッキーです！
事後土屋さんよりあたたかいメッセージをいただきました。
ジャックとも交流していただき、そのやりとりを、お二人の許可を得て
掲載させていただきますね。

人柄が良く出ていて繊細で優しく、奥底に強さを持ったとても良いギターでした。
どのギターで弾いたか覚えてませんが、「カヴェティーナ」を弾いたのを聴いて、
ジャックが後日Facebookのメッセージで良かったと言ってくれました。

クラシックの繊細さ、ジャズの大胆さをつむぐオリジナリティあふれた一枚です。
たくさんの方にご来場いただき、嬉しいことが山のように起こった二日間、
あっという間に搬出が終わり、車の中で 「お疲れ様！」
もうジャックは明日帰国です。
最後の晩は越谷で、ぜひジャックに会ってもらいたい人がいました。
ということで、今宵もまた居酒屋へ。

ジャックと同じイギリス出身です。
日本人のゆかり先生とご夫婦で英会話スクールを経営しています。
私たち（関根弘幸・典子）は、メルボルンに来る前に、
こちらのスクールに大変お世話になりました。
かなりダメ生徒でしたが、オーストラリアに住みたい一心で、
ジャックとの出会いもあり、ギターの仕事をしようとメルボルンにやってきたのです。
初期のジャックとのe-mailのやりとりや、ウェブサイトの翻訳などいろいろと手伝っていただきました。
なにより、いつも明るく励ましてもらいました。
そして、ジャックとエディ先生、ふたりにはすごい共通点がありました！
「スティング STING」、そうあの有名なイギリスのロックスターのスティングです。
ジャックはスティングに４本の小さいタイプのギターを作ったことがあり、
エディ先生は、スティングのパーティの料理を作ったことがあるのです。
すぐに話がはずむ二人。
さて、久々にゆかり先生（写真左）と、会えて嬉しい関根（典）は嬉しくておおはしゃぎ。
そこに横浜でのライブを終えたぷう吉さんが再び登場！
遠いですよ、越谷と横浜。
お疲れの様子もなく元気です。
わたしたちもぷう吉さんにサインいただきました。ブタが二匹 かわいいですね～。
これ、すごいかっこいいＣＤですよ。
オリジナルとカバーと両方入っています。
最後の曲はミッションインポッシブルです。全編このリズム感、すごいです。

そんな最後の楽しい晩も更け・・・。
あっという間の帰りの成田空港。
ぷう吉さんもお見送りに来てくれました。
ここで、ジャックへの質問です。 「日本で興味深かったものはなんですか？」
ジャック 「日本の文化は本当に興味深いです。
オーストラリアとはとても違っているし、
興味深いことに、私の育ったイギリスの文化にどこか似ているようです。
わたしが出会った人はみなとても楽観的で、それぞれに興味を持っているように見えます。
もしかしてそうしているように見せているのかもしれませんが、良い印象をうけました。
もちろん日本でギターを見ることはとても面白かった！
高水準であることは予測していましたが、デザインが独創的でクリエイティブでした。
思うにオーストラリアの市場は、もう少し保守的でしょうし、
マーティンや有名メーカーのコピーモデルが多いと思います。
また、ただ歩き回るだけでも本当に楽しかった！
お店の中の見慣れないもの…たとえばマンガや美しいナイフや洋服…
また水田や野菜畑など。なにもかもが私がいる場所と違いました！」
そんなジャックが写真を撮っているのは、
たくさん積んであるお弁当。
お弁当好きなオーストラリアの友人のための一枚。
さあいよいよ出国。次にジャックが日本に来るのは秋、サウンドメッセin大阪の予定です。
そのときにはどんな新作ギターができているでしょう。
楽しみですね。
今日のジャックのＴシャツは「継続は力なり」
17歳からギターをこつこつと作り続けて28年、もうじき300本になります。
どこかの工房に勤めるのではなく、自分の工房でひとりでやってきました。
現在もオーストラリア内外でファンが多く、多くのミュージシャンに愛されています。
年間に多くて20本、ひとつひとつオーダーを受けながら、インレイも自分でこなし
細部にわたるまでたったひとりで丁寧に仕上げています。
まさに職人魂！
５日間おつかれさまでした。
