ジャック・スピラのギター製作進行中！

オーストラリアはメルボルンのギター職人　ジャック・スピラのギターが
今年11月9日、10日に大阪で開催される「サウンド・メッセin大阪」にて
初めて日本に紹介されることになりました！
現在３本同時進行で製作中。もうちょっとで出来上がります。

写真は2013年9月14日撮影　これからラッカーをかけていきます。
ブリッジもこれからつきます。
すべてカッタウェイ、右のギターはアームレストが施してあります。

こちらの写真は、昨日10月1日ジャックから届いた一番左の小さいギターの写真です。
ラッカーをかけて、完成したそうです。


弦をはってから一週間、木を安定させてまたチェックするそうです。


美しいギターが出来上がりました。

メルボルンのギターメーカー、ジャック・スピラに
このたび３本のギターを同時進行でお願いしています。
出会ってから3年経過。
その間も着々とジャックはギターを作り続け、さらに多くのミュージシャンに愛されてきました。
新しく工房も建て、さらにギター作りに打ち込んでいます。

彼が製作できるのは年間たったの２０本。
素材の選定から始まり、ひとつひとつのパーツを丹念に作ります。
細いバインディング・ロゼッタの細かい細工、ブリッジ、内部のブレーシング、
ひとつひとつ、たとえば切り出し、曲げ、やすりがけ、ラッカーにいたるまで
すべて彼の手によって仕上げられています。

日本向けギターの製作プロジェクトは8月1日から始まりました。
打ち合わせを重ねた後に、工房で材料の選定です。

木材の選定


バインディングの素材の選定
ぬらすと木の色がよくわかります。


それぞれのインレイの模様別に色や素材の選定　今回はシェルを使います


サイドの木は、ゆでてやわらかくし、まげて行きます。


サウンドボードの内側のブリッジを接着しています。
なるべく軽く、響きがよくなるように、ジャック・スピラ独自のブレーシングで製作してます。

美しいロゼッタ、サイドのラインも入りました。
とても細い木の組み合わせと、シェルが入った複雑な柄です。


インレイ作業に入ります。
もとのモチーフをなぞり、細かくシェルをカットしていきます。
シェルのカットは糸鋸で行い、ぴったりとはめるにはそれは熟練が要るものです。
シェルは素材だけでなく、使う場所と角度によって光の反射が違うので、
モチーフが生きるように緻密に計算するのも職人の技です。

インレイのモチーフについては、３つに決まりました。
オーストラリアの海に生きる、ウィーディーシードラゴン
幸運のモチーフ、ドラゴンフライ（とんぼ）
とんぼは日本では、お米にまつわる生き物なので、古くから珍重されてきたそうです。
やはり幸運のモチーフ、ハミングバード（ハチドリ・・・ナスカの地上絵から）

現在進行中の３つのギターは、11月に大阪で開催される
サウンド・メッセに出展するためのものです。
ジャック・スピラの数多くのギターのモデルから日本のギター愛好家に向けて
3つのモデルを選び、素材選びやデザインを一緒に創ってきました。

その時間経過はこのような感じです。
8月1日　　ジャックとギター製作および日本での販売について打ち合わせ、
8月8日　　ジャックと素材の木材についての打ち合わせ
8月12日　工房を訪ねたらさっそくサウンドボードとロゼッタが出来ていました！
9月9日　　工房を訪ねたら、３つのギターがすっかり立体になっていました！
9月11日　ジャックより、インレイの経過画像が届きました
9月14日　工房を訪問し、３つのギターに見事にインレイがそろってラッカー前の段階
10月1日　ジャックより一番小さなモデルの完成画像が届きました。

実際ギターはずっと作り続けているわけではなく、
途中で接着をしたら数時間、数日乾かしたり、
ラッカーを塗り始めたら一週間おいてはがしてまた塗ったり
最後は弦を張ってそらないように仕上げの一週間があったりと
ひとつひとつの工程に時間が必要です。

ラッカー前ですが、こちらも美しい仕上がり。


ハミングバードのモデルのアームレスト部分です。
これも匠の技。微妙なカーブと色のコントラストが品位を高めています。

9月26日にジャックから、あと一週間でだいたい出来上がり
その後3週間時間をおいて仕上がると聞きました。
楽しみです！写真のエンドピンを見せに来てくれました。

ジャックの工房は二階建ての立派な建物ですが、これも自分で作ったそう
内部もとても効率的です。

これは工房の敷地にある林。とても背の高い木がはえていますが、
これもギターの素材になる木だそう。

かわいい二匹の犬も、いつも仲良く工房にいます。

工房の周囲はこんな牧場地帯。メルボルン市内より標高が高く、見晴らしがよいところです。

オーストラリアならではの道路標識。
カンガルーは珍しくないので今回はウォンバットの標識を載せてみました。

 

わたしたちが初めてジャックと会ったのは2010年3月15日
まだとうていメルボルンに住むとは考えられなかった頃です。
通訳さんと一緒に訪問し、いろいろな木材を見せてもらいました。
その2ヵ月後には今年も行う、ギターメーカーが集まるクラフトギターの展示会を控えていて、
ジャックはその主催者としてたくさんのギター職人を組織化していました。
２ヵ月後に展示会で出会ったときも、自分も出展しているにもかかわらず
忙しい中、わたしたちをほかの全部のギターメーカーに紹介してくれました。

オーストラリアで事業立ち上げのビザ取得に手間取りましたが、
わたしたちは昨年9月にようやくメルボルンに住むようになりました。
英語学校に毎日通ったり日本に帰ったりと、最初のどたばたからぬけて、
ようやく今年の4月10日にジャックと再会することができました。
あっというまに３年という月日が過ぎてしまいましたが、彼は私たちを温かく迎えてくれたのでした。

それからジャックの工房に足しげく通い、ギター作りを教わりながらいろいろな話をきいて、
行くたびに進行中のギターを見せてもらったり、
あれこれ質問をしたり、注文したお客様と出会ったり、
別のお客様からの手紙をみせてもらったりしてきました。
彼がどんなにギター製作に心血を注いでいるか、またミュージシャンと長いお付き合いをして
人柄も楽器も愛されているかということが、次々と明らかになっています。

たくさんのギター職人の皆さんと出会いましたが、
やはり私たちが最初に日本の皆さんに紹介したいのは、彼ジャック・スピラのギターです。
11月は大阪で行われる「サウンドメッセin大阪」で多くの皆さんにジャックのギターを見ていただき、
触れてそのよさを実感していただきたいと思っています。


この日は３人で小龍包がおいしいと有名な「フートンダンプリング」でディナーをいただきました。

★田中彬博さんとのご縁★

さてこの11月のサウンドメッセについては、実は素敵なご縁がありました。
ご存知の方も多いと思いますが、
日本のみならず世界でご活躍中のフィンガーピッキングギターの名手、田中彬博さんとジャックとの出会いです。

今年の3月26-29日にマレーシアで開催された「マレーシアン・インターナショナル・ギターフェスティバル2013」に
田中さんは出演アーティストとして、ジャックはギター出展者として参加し、
そこで二人は出会ったのでした。
田中さんはジャックのギターに目を留めて、試奏したところ、大変気に入ったそうです。
ジャックも田中さんの演奏がとても好きになりました。
メルボルンに帰ってきてから、ジャックはわたしたちに
田中さんのCDを手に入れられないだろうかと、相談してくれたので、
すぐに田中さんに連絡をしました。
そして何度もの温かいやりとりの末に、7月に私たちが日本に帰ったときに
田中さんの本拠地、京都でお会いすることができたのです。

とってもさわやかな田中さん！
わたしたちのキャンピングカーにも遊びにきてくれました。


寂光院
京都では、「きらきらひかる」というレストランと、寂光院で行われた田中彬博さんと吉川忠英さんのライブに２日連続で私たちも行ってきました！
すばらしい演奏、やさしい空気、京都ならではのおしゃれな雰囲気、そしてあたたかいファンの皆さん、心から感動しました・・・。

そして田中さんにいただいたご縁で、11月の大阪で開催されるサウンドメッセin大阪でジャックのギターを紹介させていただくことになりました！
11月に皆様とお会いできるのを楽しみにしています！
