実はコレ、ジャックスピラ氏こだわりの逸品！

ジャック・スピラ氏と出会ったばかりの頃、彼の製作するギターの大半はお客様のオーダーによるもので、お客様のどんなオーダーにも応え、あらゆるタイプのギターを作っていました。

しかしそんな中にも、ヘッドやブリッジ、ロゼッタなど、さりげなく気品のあるデザイン、優しい感じのボディシェイプなど、他のルシアーとは違った個性にとても惹かれました。

よくよく聞いてみるとジャックはアール・ヌーボーなど伝統的なデザインが好きで、そうした趣向がギターにも出ているのでしょう。

そんなジャックと日本向けのギターデザインを一緒に考え始めた頃、僕はテスト・マーケティングと思い、ボディサイズや、使用木材はもちろんのこと、インレイも毎回、趣向を変えた提案をし、製作をお願いしました。

ジャックはサウンドにこそ、こだわりがあり、インレイワークについてはお客様の要望があればするけど、実はインレイなしのシンプルなギターが好きなことは以前にもお話しした通り。

しかし、日本で名前の知られていないギター職人を印象付けるため、僕は次々に様々なインレイを施したギターをオーダーしました。

そんな中、ジャックの方から珍しく、インレイデザイン案を提案してくれたことがありました。

いつもは「こんなアイディアもあるよね。」くらいに控えめなジャックが、この時ばかりは、「デザインを描いたんだけど見てくれる？」って。。

こんな前のめりなジャックの提案は後にも先にもこの時だけ。

そんなジャックが提案してくれたインレイデザインが写真のケルティック・ドッグなんです。

ジャックは大の犬好きで「犬をモチーフにしたんだよ。」というけれど、「ん？これ犬なの？」と首をかしげていたら、「犬をケルト・デザイン的に書いてみたんだ。」と。。

何とも不思議なデザインだと思っていましたが、実は、犬が自分のしっぽを加えてグルグルと周っているこのデザイン「永遠」「輪廻」「転生」を表しているケルトの伝統模様をモチーフにしたものなんだそうです。

なるほど、デザイン自体にそんな尊い意味があったんですね！

しかしこんな複雑なデザインをインレイにできるのか・・・と思っていましたが、完成品がこのインレイです！

何とも複雑なデザイン、良くこんなデザインを描き、そしてインレイにしたな・・と只々感心するばかり。

そしてバックを見てみると、ネック付け根のボディにも小さな可愛らしいケルティック・ドッグが！

こんな場所にインレイが施せるということも驚きでした！

そんな逸話のあるジャックの自信作は今、東京のハートマン・ギターズさんにあります。

日本には、ドレッドノートに一番近いスモールジャンボ・サイズのJS-４を数多く輸入していますが、

このギターは、それよりやや小ぶりのJS-３というモデルで日本にはあまり数多く輸入しておらず（輸入したのは過去に２本のみ）、現在、日本の楽器店に在庫する唯一のJS-3です。

ドレッドノートではちょっと大きすぎるけど、胴鳴りやボリューム感は欲しい・・という方には最適だと思います。
